Medicare Basics

Medicare is health insurance for people age 65 or older, under age 65 with certain disabilities and any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant).

You may want to explore coverage beyond Original Medicare Parts A and B, especially if your employer does not offer retiree health coverage.

Here are some things to consider:

  • What is more important to you – low out-of-pocket maximums or low plan premiums?
  • Do you need prescription drug coverage?
  • Are you looking for additional benefits such as dental, vision and hearing care?

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee offers a variety of plans designed to provide you coverage beyond what Original Medicare offers. Click here to compare our plans to Original Medicare.PDF
