Get to know your over-the-counter (OTC) benefit

Our BlueAdvantage members get a quarterly allowance for OTC items. We want to help you get the most out of this benefit. So we’ve answered some of your most common questions about it here.

Am I eligible for the OTC benefit?

If you’re a BlueAdvantage or BlueAdvantage Freedom member, you get this benefit. This benefit isn’t included in our BlueAdvantage Plus plans.

How can I spend my OTC allowance?

You can use your OTC allowance to buy wellness items like cold medicine and vitamins. There are three ways to shop:

  • Online: The easiest way to shop for these items is to go online. Just click here to log in or create your OTC account. Once you’ve signed up, you can go online to check your current balance and place an order. Items ordered online will be shipped right to your door.
  • By Phone: You can also call in your catalog order. Just contact 1-888-628-27701-888-628-2770, TTY 711711. You can speak to a live agent Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Please have your Member ID and order ready when calling.
  • At the Store: Prefer to shop in person? You can shop for approved items at most CVS pharmacies. To see what stores you can shop at, go to the OTC login page. Then select Store locator. If you’re already logged in, you may need to log out to use this feature.

Does my allowance roll over?

No. Your allowance doesn’t roll over, so be sure to get the items you need by the end of each quarter. Here are the important dates to remember:

  • Quarter 1: Jan. 1–March 31
  • Quarter 2: April 1–June 30
  • Quarter 3: July 1–Sept. 30
  • Quarter 4: Oct. 1–Dec. 31

Will I need to use a special card for this benefit?

No. You just need your BlueAdvantage or BlueAdvantage Freedom Member ID. If you’re shopping online, you’ll only have to enter your Member ID once — when you create your OTC account. If you’re shopping in person, you’ll let the cashier know you’re paying with your plan allowance. They may ask to see your Member ID just to confirm it’s you.

Note: You can’t spend more than your current balance or use your own money when ordering by phone or through your online account. You can use your own money when shopping at a local store.

Will I get an OTC catalog?

The best way to search for approved OTC items is with your online OTC account. There, you can easily see what’s available, check your current balance and place your order. If you’d like a print catalog mailed to you, please call us and let us know.
