Take a closer look at your options.
If you’re turning 65, you will likely be eligible for Original Medicare. There are two parts to Original Medicare – Parts A and B.
It’s important to remember that Original Medicare doesn’t cover everything. You’ll still pay part of the cost for some things yourself. That’s where Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans can help.
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee offers Medicare supplement plans. Medicare Supplement – or MediGap – plans can help you pay for services Original Medicare doesn’t. You pay a budgeted, monthly premium for a Medicare Supplement plan – and that can help keep your out-of-pocket costs lower. If you choose a Medicare Supplement, you don’t have to worry about networks. Any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare takes Medicare Supplement coverage.
But, you should keep in mind that Medicare Supplement plans don’t cover prescriptions. If you go with a Medicare Supplement plan, you’ll have to purchase your Part D (prescription) coverage separately.
Medicare Advantage plans, sometimes called Part C, combine Original Medicare and usually Part D coverage with extra benefits like hearing aid coverage, dental benefits or a free gym membership. They do have networks, so it is important to be sure your doctor is in your plan’s network.
These plans are great options for people who want straightforward coverage and a high level of benefits – all with one ID card.
